New life!

Beets
Beets, Turnips, Radishes, and Swiss Chard have now all poked their little heads through the surface of the garden's soil as they reach their little necks towards the sun.  I was out of town for a friend's wedding this weekend, and was overjoyed to return to new life in the corner garden- when I left on Friday there were only beets and a smattering of turnips in view. The new plant's tender little shoots aren't more than an inch tall, yet are hardy and stand tall against the showering of water I sprayed on them this morning.
While I am thrilled at the appearance of these new vegetables, I can't help but wish their neighboring parsnips, carrots, peas, beans, carrots, lettuce, and spinach would come forth as well.  I'm not sure how long I should wait before re-working the soil and attempting another crop.  As the nights continue to get cooler I am hesitant to plant any surface vegetables, and am thinking I may attempt some onions and winter garlic- both purported to do well during the winter in this zone.
